SQUASH FAQs:img_squashcourt

What is a match? A match is the best of five games. This means that you play until one player has won three games, at which point the match is over and the score is the number of games each player has won until the three are reached (so either 3-0, 3-1, or 3-2). Games are scored to 9. You must serve to win the point. In the event that players are tied 8-8, the player who is not serving (i.e. the first one to get to 8) calls "to 9" (set 1) or "to 10" (set 2), indicating whether he wants the game to finish at 9 or 10 points. Unlike tennis, you do not have to win by 2 points. So if the player calls "to 10" and the score of 9-9 is reached, the first player to score a point wins the game.

What if I need some help with rules? The best way to get the rules down is to get out and play an experienced member or to take a lesson. Also you can find the complete World Squash Federation Rules at: http://www.worldsquash.org/ws/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/110920_Singles-Rules-V6.pdf. Please feel free to speak to the pros with any question regarding the rules. They are completely available to answer all your questions.

Is there a club league? The club has two different ladders. The regular ladder is called the "Box league" and there is also a lunch ladder for people who play during the day. The ladders have strict rules so please contact the pros to find out more. The ladders range from beginners to the best in the club so everybody can join.

Do I have to wear goggles? Protective eyewear is mandatory at the club for all members and guests.

Is there a dress code? Squash attire consists of nonmarking sneakers and athletic wear.

Does the club sell squash gear? Our squash pro maintains a pro shop that contains squash racquets, balls, shoes and other squash gear.

Can I bring a nonmember friend or family member to play? Nonmember friends or family members are welcome to play squash at the club. A guest fee will be charged.
