GENERAL MEMBERSHIP FAQs:

How do memberships work at the SRC?

SRC monthly memberships are all flexible, which means that they can be cancelled at any time. All you need to do is give the office thirty days’ notice to cancel. Forms are available at the front desk.

If my husband/wife/partner decides to join too, do we have to pay another joining fee?

No, you can upgrade your membership to a couple membership at any time without incurring an additional joining fee. In addition, the club offers a discounted rate for couples.

If my son/daughter who is a student wants to join, can he or she join too?

Yes, the SRC has flexible student memberships too. Students can join for one week, one month, three months or one year. They do not need a credit card to join.

Can I freeze my monthly membership when I go on vacation?

Yes, members can choose one month per year to freeze their membership. Please let the office know in writing a month in advance.

Do you give a discount for annual memberships prepaid in advance?

Yes. Annual memberships generally are priced so that you get twelve months for the price of eleven.

Are your memberships transferable?

No. Our memberships stay with the person who purchased them.

If I know someone who wants to join, can I get that person a guest pass?

Yes, if your friend or associate is a local resident and is interested in trying our club, talk to a membership director to receive a complimentary pass.

What do you think makes your fitness club unique or different from the chains?

SRC staff members pride themselves in their fitness knowledge and try to make the club a friendly place that feels like home. Most of our staff and managers have been working at the Club for over 10 years and enjoy getting to know and motivate our members.

Does my membership allow me to use all of the facilities in the club?

There are two types of memberships: a fitness membership and a squash membership. A squash membership is a total club membership. A fitness membership excludes use of the squash courts and is less expensive.

What do I need to bring with me to the club?

The SRC supplies towels, lockers with keys, soaps, and shaving cream. We even supply early morning coffee and bagels. You only need to bring your workout clothing and gear.

SQUASH FAQs:

What is a match?

A match is the best of five games. This means that you play until one player has won three games, at which point the match is over and the score is the number of games each player has won until the three are reached (so either 3-0, 3-1, or 3-2). Games are scored to 9. You must serve to win the point. In the event that players are tied 8-8, the player who is not serving (i.e. the first one to get to 8) calls "to 9" (set 1) or "to 10" (set 2), indicating whether he wants the game to finish at 9 or 10 points. Unlike tennis, you do not have to win by 2 points. So if the player calls "to 10" and the score of 9-9 is reached, the first player to score a point wins the game.

What if I need some help with rules?

The best way to get the rules down is to get out and play an experienced member or to take a lesson. Also you can find the complete World Squash Federation Rules at:
http://www.worldsquash.org/rules/singles.htm

Please feel free to speak to the pros with any question regarding the rules. They are completely available to answer all your questions.

Is there a club league?

The club has two different ladders. The regular ladder is called the "Box league" and there is also a lunch ladder for people who play during the day. The ladders have strict rules so please contact the pros to find out more. The ladders range from beginners to the best in the club so everybody can join.

Do I have to wear goggles?

Protective eyewear is mandatory at the club for all members and guests.

Is there a dress code?

Squash attire consists of nonmarking sneakers and athletic wear.

Does the club sell squash gear?

Our squash pros maintain a pro shop that contains squash racquets and balls, shoes and other squash gear.

Can I bring a nonmember friend or family member to play?

Nonmember friends or family members are welcome to play squash at the club. A guest fee will be charged.
